For owners who need assistance

Hope’s Legacy aims to help as many equines as possible. However, our waiting list for owner surrenders is often long, and we prioritize equines by greatest and critical need.

We are part of the Virginia Partnership for Horses, a group of Virginia-based rescue organizations who work together to improve the welfare of horses in the state. In the event that HLER is unable to help you at this time, we encourage you to look at the Virginia Partnership for Horses website for information on other rescues and sanctuaries as well as information on resources and assistance: https://www.partnershipforhorses.com/resources.

This page has information and links to organizations both in Virginia and nationally who may be able to help you provide care to your equine or help you to rehome your equine.

Direct Placement Services

The Virginia Partnership for Horses has also started a Direct Placement Program, which assists owners in directly rehoming their horses. If you are able to care for your equine but need to rehome them and are worried about where your equine goes, we encourage you to work with this program.

Vet Direct Program

The American Association of Equine Practitioners and ASPCA have the Vet Direct Program for owners seeking emergency vet assistance. This program can provide relief for owners who need assistance and as long as your vet is participating, this is open to you. Read more here: Vet Direct AAEP

Find out if your vet is part of the Vet Direct Program by asking them or contacting the AAEP.
