Meet our adoptable (or soon to be adoptable) equines looking for a home! These equines include donkeys, horses, mules, and miniatures who are ready to find their people. Available Equines at Castle Rock Farm
Spud
Spud is an Appaloosa Cross gelding who is in his 20s. Spud is a retired trail guiding horse whose owner surrendered him due to financial challenges. He is looking for a nonriding laidback retirement home. Spud has good handling - he is easy to catch, stands well for the farrier and vet, and would be a lovely addition to any herd.

Sandusky
Sandusky is a 25 year old Appaloosa mare who came to us from a loving owner who could not care for her any more. She loves her food and attention! Sandusky currently gets 1/2 tablet of prascend to maintain her Cushing’s symptoms and is otherwise a healthy gal! She is looking for a home as a loving companion.

Queen’s Folly
Queen’s Folly is a 23 year old OTTB mare who is still very active and athletic. Folly does not love to leave her buddies behind, but does enjoy to go out on a trail with company. She loads nicely on a trailer and stands politely for the farrier and vet. She is looking for a laidback home who can give her some time to settle into a routine.

Clive
Clive is is gentle giant who loves attention. He is a 16 hand TB (unraced) gelding in his 20s. Clive enjoys grass and chaff/chopped hay that’s easier to chew. He is a farm favorite at Castle Rock - he loves to greet everyone! Clive would love a home that will give him lots of love and a nice retirement pasture.

Brisby
Brisby recently came to us from a law enforcement seizure. He is a Quarter Horse gelding in his early 20s who is very sweet and easy going guy who enjoys his legs being stretched and taking a leisurely stroll. Brisby is an all around good boy - stands well for the vet and farrier and is easy to halter. He would make a fantastic companion horse for any home!

Kona
Kona is an OTTB who is in her mid-20s and around 16-16.1 hands. She is a calm herd member who enjoys attention and gets along well with other horses. Kona stands well for the farrier and vet and is generally easy to handle. Kona is available as a companion and would make a lovely addition to any herd!

Pebbles
Pebbles is an Appaloosa mare in her 30s who is lively and talkative! She is visually impaired, but that does not stop her from knowing when food is on the way! Pebbles starts talking to our feeders when they drive up to the paddock. While Pebbles is not easy for the farrier, mild oral sedation helps farrier visits go smoothly. Pebbles loves people and would be a great addition to your home as a companion.

General
General is a 16 year old pony sized mule. He enjoys being the boss of the field and is fine being in with full sized horses and mules. General would do well in a home experienced with mules as he still needs work being handled. General is blind in his left eye, but it doesn’t slow him down!

Zelda
Thunder on Tap, more affectionately known as Zelda is a 17 year old OTTB mare. She is very sweet and gets along well with other horses, though she doesn’t like her friends near her food! Zelda needs a joint supplement to keep her body happy and would love a home with no large hills. She is available as a companion and can’t wait for her loving home!

Champagne Problems
Champagne is a Morgan mare in her 20s. She is very sweet and loves attention. Champagne came to us overweight and her feet indicate issues with founder. She is currently pasture sound and can be managed with diet and exercise. Champagne’s previous home said she was never formally trained to ride, so we are adopting her out as a loving companion. If you want a buddy to greet you at the fence, she’s your girl!

Queso
Queso arrived in April 2025 from a law enforcement seizure. He is an 8-10 year old gelding, roughly 15.1 hands tall with a big personality. Queso is a goofy and sweet horse who enjoys attention and does well in mixed herds. He has a brand on his left hind we have not identified yet. We do not know much about Queso’s background, but it does not appear that he has had much training beyond some handling on the ground. He does ok for the vet and is not good for his feet yet. He is currently available to a trainer as a project horse.

Nova
Nova is a large pony mare around 8-10 years old who arrived in April through a law enforcement seizure. We do not know much about her background and are learning more about her as we evaluate her. She is shy, but is coming out of her shell with attention - particularly neck scratches. Nova is working on being caught in the field and on picking up her feet calmly. She is available to a trainer as a project pony.

Maximus
Maximus is a miniature horse around 15-18 years old who came to us in April through a law enforcement seizure. Maximus is easy to handle, though he does not always like to be caught, but he is getting better. He was gelded May 19, 2025. Maximus is available to a home where he will not be in a mixed herd.

Pepper Jack
Pepper Jack is a 22 year old registered Welsh pony who came to us in April through a law enforcement seizure. He has a bit of a grumpy face, but don’t let that fool you - he’s a softy who welcomes attention and treats. Pepper Jack was gelded May 19, 2025. We think Pepper Jack had prior training - he handles very well, picks his feet up, and knows how to lunge. Pepper Jack is available to a home where he will not be in a mixed herd.

Daybreak
Daybreak is an 19 year old OTTB mare (raced under “Glossary”) who came to us through a large animal control seizure in June 2023. She was treated for canker in her left hind this year and her canker has cleared up. Daybreak is currently at Equine Welfare Society and is available for adoption as a companion!

Frank
Frank is a spry older guy in his 20s looking for a home where he can get all the attention he wants! He is around 15 hh and is very easy to handle, groom and bathe. He also stand well for the vet and farrier. Frank is an easy keeper and would love to be in a pasture with friends.

Nelson
Nelson is a 12 year old gentle giant! Standing around 16.3 hands, this gelding is a sweet boy who is looking for a person to bond with. Nelson does have an old injury in his front foot and is sound for pasture. He needs a patient farrier and consistent handling to build up his trust. He has a lot of love to give to a new home!

Lucky Shot
Lucky Shot is a Thoroughbred mare around 26 years old. She has a bullet in her neck that is unable to be safely removed, but it does not bother her. She is a friendly mare who is available as a loving companion.

Mad World (aka Matilda) is a 16 year old OTTB who is available as a loving companion.

Luray
Luray is a 25 year old Thoroughbred mare who came to us through a large animal control seizure in Shenandoah Valley and was very thin. She has gained weight and is ready for her new home. She is ready for a companion home!

Mae
This lovely roughly 26 year old Morgan(?) mare is available for adoption as a companion. She has foundered in the past so she cannot live on lush grass. She loves attention and being brushed, she isn’t a huge fan of the farrier (but is getting better every time!).

Mozart
Mozart is a gelding in his late 20s, we are unsure of his breed. Though he is still learning to be caught (a cookie helps), he stands well for the farrier and is good for the vet. He may have insulin resistance, so he is looking for a home with a dry lot, minimal pasture, or an owner that used a grazing muzzle (he is good about keeping it on). Mozart is available as a companion.

Modesto
Modesto is a large pony mare who we believe is around 8-10 years old. She came to us through an animal control seizure and very scared of people. Modesto is improving slowly and will be available once we are confident she could be seen by a vet and farrier in a new home.
Echo
Echo is a pony mare in her late teens/early 20s who came to us through an animal control seizure. She is evasive in the field - we are working on approaching and catching her. Once caught, it does seem that Echo has had prior training for handling. She does ok for the vet and would be great in a home for someone who wants to bond with an equine, take their time, and build up her trust. She will be available for adoption soon!
Fern
Fern is a senior pony mare who came to us through an animal control seizure. She is less cautious than Fig (below), but still a little stand-offish. Fern does love some neck scratches and treats! She will be available soon as a companion.
Fig
Fig is a senior pony mare who came to use through an animal control seizure. She is working on being caught in the field. Once caught, Fig is very sweet, though cautious. She will be available soon as a companion pony!
Porter
Porter recently came to us from a law enforcement seizure. He is a Thoroughbred gelding in his 20s and enjoys attention. Porter is on a refeeding schedule and will be evaluated further once he is at a healthy weight.
Calypso
Calypso arrived in April through a law enforcement seizure. She is a (likely)Welsh pony in her early to mid teens with amazing ground manners - she is calm, stands well for the vet and farrier, and very responsive. Calypso gave birth to a colt, Denver, on May 18th, 2025. Once Denver is weaned, Calypso will be available for adoption.
Denver
Denver was born at the rescue on May 18th, 2025. It is likely his sire is Pepper Jack. Both Calypso and Pepper Jack are small Welsh ponies and Denver will likely be a small pony as well. After he is weaned, Denver will be available for adoption to an experienced home.
Stately April
Stately April (“April”) is a 3 year old Off-The-Track Thoroughbred who recently retired from racing in 2024. She has had some time to relax from the track.
April is currently in training with Wheatland Equine
Bonita
Bonita is a mini mule around 7-8 years old who came to us from a law enforcement seizure. She arrived extremely scared of people and has been slowly, but surely improving. Bonita will be officially made available when she can be handled.
Cheers
Cheers the Year (“Cheers”) arrived on New Years Eve 2024! Cheers is a cute mare around 7 years old. She is very friendly and enjoys to be the center of attention. Cheers is currently at Equine Welfare Society for evaluation.
Jester
Jester is an approximately 16 year old standard size mule. He is still very standoff-ish and will be available when he can be moderately handled. (If you are interested in adopting him and are able to provide him necessary training to socialize and handle Jester, please contact us!)
