WTVR: 40 horses, 15 dogs seized from Nottoway farm

Hope's Legacy is currently housing 19 of these horses in the Crozet area and we are looking for more stall cleaners! Our list of needs for these horses is pretty basic, good grass hay, alfalfa hay, senior feed and silver sulfadiazine cream for the ones with chemical burns.

For folks who are a little further south than we are who want to be of assistance, Central Virginia Horse Rescue in Broadnax took in 22 of them and is also looking for more volunteers.

October 19, 2015

On October 19, 2015 we received a call that the Orange County Sheriff's Department and Animal Control were on a farm which was the scene of terrible abuse and neglect. There were 101 live horses, donkeys and mules on the property plus a number of dead animals.

We arrived at the farm at about 8:00 p.m. that night and picked up six horses and one miniature donkey in critical condition.

The following morning we returned to the farm and thanks to our amazing volunteers and foster homes were were able to pick up an additional 22 horses and ponies.

Sadly 5 of the horses did not make it.

These horses, ponies and donkey were all in varying states of starvation and neglect. Some were not much more than skin and bones, others were physically decent shape but are very fearful.

Rehabilitating these horses will be a long process, some are ready for adoption now, others it will be many more months.

Please consider a donation to help support not only the Peaceable Farm horses from Orange County but also the other residents of Hope's Legacy.
